Materials & Care

Studio Originals are made by hand, while our Curated Pieces are thoughtfully selected for their design, quality and wearability. Across both collections, we use cultured pearls and carefully chosen jewelry materials.

Here is what your piece is made from—and how to keep it beautiful.

Our Materials

  • Cultured Pearls

    We work with cultured freshwater, Akoya, Edison and Tahitian pearls, selected for their luster, surface character, colour and shape.

    Because pearls are grown rather than manufactured, natural variation is part of their beauty.

  • Precious Metals

    Depending on the design, our pieces may feature S999 fine silver, S925 sterling silver or 14K–18K gold-filled components.

  • Hand Finishing

    Studio Originals may be hand-knotted on silk thread and finished with magnetic, adjustable or traditional clasps, depending on the design.

    Each Studio Original is assembled and finished with care in our studio.

Caring for Your Pearls

  • 01 · Last On, First Off

    Put your pearls on after perfume, hairspray and lotion—and take them off first.

  • 02 · Wipe After Wearing

    Gently wipe your jewelry with a clean, soft and dry cloth after each wear.

  • 03 · Avoid Chemicals

    Keep pearls away from chlorine, bleach, ammonia and vinegar. Never use ultrasonic or steam cleaners.

  • 04 · Store Soft and Flat

    Store your piece flat in a soft pouch or lined jewelry box. Do not hang hand-knotted pearl strands.

  • 05 · Remove Before Water

    Take your jewelry off before swimming, bathing, exercising or sleeping.

A Little Care Goes a Long Way

Pearls are organic gemstones formed in living mollusks. Their nacre gives them their distinctive glow, but it also makes them softer and more sensitive than many other gemstones.

Avoid friction, prolonged moisture, heat and household chemicals. When in doubt, use only a soft dry cloth and contact us before attempting to clean your piece.

A Few Honest Notes

Damage From Improper Care

Damage caused by chemicals, perfume, ultrasonic or steam cleaning, impact, improper storage, or wear during swimming, bathing, sleeping or exercise is not considered a manufacturing defect and is not covered by our returns or repair policy.

Sensitive Skin

Material details are listed on each product page. If you have a known metal sensitivity, review these details carefully and wear a new piece for a short period at first. Discontinue use and consult a medical professional if irritation occurs.

Restringing

Silk thread may gradually stretch or soil with regular wear. Hand-knotted pearl strands should be professionally inspected and restrung from time to time. Please contact us for an assessment and restringing quote.

Natural Variation

Cultured pearls are grown, not manufactured. Colour, shape, size, luster and surface markings vary from piece to piece. These characteristics are inherent to a natural material and are not considered faults.

Colour on Screen

Colours may appear different depending on your screen settings, lighting and surroundings. We photograph our pieces as accurately as possible, but slight differences should be expected.

Pearls Are Soft

Pearls measure approximately 2.5–4 on the Mohs hardness scale and are softer than most gemstones. They may scratch and can be damaged by acids, solvents, heat and prolonged moisture.

Natural Wear on Metals

Sterling silver naturally tarnishes when exposed to air, humidity and skin chemistry. Gold-filled and plated finishes may gradually show wear depending on frequency of use, storage and exposure to moisture or chemicals. These changes are normal characteristics of jewelry materials and are not manufacturing defects.
